GoCps High School Planning

Choosing the right high school to fit your future goals and needs is a critical step in the college and career planning process.
Researching and Choosing a High School
When it comes to high school programs, CPS offers a wide variety of educational options and college and career pathways to meet the interests, aspirations and needs of the district's diverse student population. During eighth grade, elementary school counselors meet with students and their families to help them identify the best programs for the students. Individual High Schools will provide open houses, information sessions, and high school fairs to help students get a better look at the schools and programs they are interested in so that they can make the most informed decisions.
Explore High School Bound to find schools that match your interests and goals.
Explore GoCPS or http://chavez-hs-planner.com/ to learn more about CPS schools, programs, eligibility requirements and the high school application process.

What School Is Best For You?
  • Location - How far is the school from your home? How will you be getting to and from school everyday? After looking at the start time, will you be able to get to school on time?

  • Academics - What programs are offered that are of most interest to you? What is the freshman on-track rate? What is the High School graduation rate? How many students enroll in college?

  • Size - How many students are at the school? How big is the freshman class size this year? Is it smaller or bigger than my current 8th grade class?

  • Extracurricular Activities - What extracurricular activities are offered at the school? What extracurricular activities am I interested in?

  • Diversity - What is the racial breakdown of the student body?

Please email any of your questions or concerns to your School Counselor, Mr. Tate at [email protected].

¿Qué actividades extracurriculares me interesan?

If your parent signed a proxy form for the school counselor (Mr. Tate) to complete the accept/decline process on your behalf, be sure to communicate with Mr.Tate about your decision before they take any actions. Since most CPS staff are currently working remotely due to school closures, the best way to initiate this conversation is to email your child’s counselor. Please refer to the staff directory on your school’s website or contact the main office for assistance (Mr.Tate's contact: [email protected]).
The CPS Office of Access and Enrollment is working to assess the impact of school closures on the remainder of the GoCPS high school application timeline and will communicate any other changes or adjustments as soon as possible.

Opening a GoCPS Account – Email Address . Go to https://go.cps.edu/
2. Click the LogIn Tab
3. Click  Create an Account first.
4. You will need your GoCPS activation code to set-up. If you are missing that code, Please see Mr.Tate.

When opening a GoCPS account, it is recommended that an email address is used, rather than a telephone number.
  • Alerts and updates regarding the GoCPS application process are always sent via text to the phone number on the account. If an email address is used as the username, these alerts/updates will also be sent to the email address. This helps to ensure that the family receives the information.
Whenever possible, the parent/guardian’s email address should be the email address that is used to open the account. Unless the parent/guardian does not have an email address, the student’s CPS email address should not be used as the username. This helps to ensure that the parent/guardian is involved and engaged with the process and that no actions are taken by the student without the parent’s knowledge or consent

Understanding High School Results

GoCPS has a new page called High School Selection that was created to help you understand the processes behind high school selections and notifications. This page includes a series of videos and illustrated guides that will walk you through important topics like high school matching factors and program admissions processes. Take some time to review this content before you leave for Spring Break so you can start understanding your options.
