Welcome!
Welcome!
Covid-19 Response:
Dear Students,
As we approach Spring Break, I just wanted to check in with you again. I have heard from a few of you over the last few weeks. I hope you are well. I hope your families are well. I miss you and I miss having class together. I hope we can be in school together again soon.
You may continue turning in any missing work or make-up work, but I must request that any of that work be turned in by April 13. While we are not having class together, you can certainly continue to practice skills on your own. You can use typing.com and code.org. 6th graders can continue to use Sculpty Pet through fusestudio.net.
If you need to turn something in, have a question or a problem, or just want to say hi, you can reach me through our Google Classroom or by e-mail at grgazdziak@cps.edu.
I hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Mr. Gazdziak
2019-2020 Welcome:
I am excited to be in my 14th year of teaching, 12 of which have been in this community. I earned a B.S. in Elementary Education in 2005 from Illinois College and a Masters in Educational Technology from Concordia University Chicago in 2013. Beyond teaching computer classes, I also help manage our school's garden, found on the west side of campus.
Our goal in computer class is to help students develop skills in computer literacy, digital citizenship, and research. This is accomplished through units of study that will show students a variety of ways that technology can be applied at home, school, or in the workplace. Some of what the students will utilize include various Microsoft and Google products, coding programs, Naviance, and the Internet. 6th graders will use a variety of other products as they participate in the FUSE program to develop STEM related skills and thinking. All of this will be done within the context of content specific projects or real-world scenarios.
